There's different kinds of TV Show binges though, and I've come to realize how someone watches a show can ultimately have the power to affect their view of the story as well.
I love lazy Sunday's when I can just veg out and watch Netflix all day. Binging new shows is always fresh and exciting, but binging an old favorite, such as Grey's Anatomy, is like reconnecting with a long-lost friend. In fact, I started re-watching Grey's and I've almost plowed through the first two seasons in about a week! I know, I need a life, whatever.
And some shows, I absolutely cannot binge, like House of Cards. The show is so extremely intense and profound, I can only handle an episode or two at a time so I can process what is happening.
Other shows like Orange is the New Black, I need to force myself NOT to binge because once I finish the season, I will have to wait a whole year until then next one.
There's a certain phenomenon I've noticed over the years however, which is how binging a show versus watching an episode a week can affect how someone views the show.
For example, I started watching Dexter shortly after it appeared on Showtime. I watched episode by episode every week religiously. I grew attached to good 'ol Dex and was mortified by the series finale. On the other hand, I know several people who waited until the series was over and watched all the seasons straight through, and they didn't mind the ending. Maybe, I became more attached by watching over several years as opposed to several months? It's possible.
I also realized by binge watching a show, I notice more than I did previously when I only watched an episode a week. Another example is How I Met Your Mother. When I watched the show, I thought Barney and Robin had a decent relationship, but by watching that story line all at once, I saw they really didn't have the bliss I thought they had originally.
All in all, there are 50+ shades of binging a show and sometimes, how we watch TV affects our views. And, that's okay, because there's nothing wrong with having a little different perspective.
