Overview: On Christmas Day in 1893, an entire gold mining town vanishes without a trace. 113 years later however, a group intends to travel to the neglected town, called Abandon, to try and hunt down potential paranormal activity.
What the group doesn't plan on is forces out of their control, hijacking their trip and breaking wide open, the mysteries of Abandon.
What I loved: Blake Crouch is pure genius and Abandon was crafted masterfully. I finished this book in less than two days because I could not put it down. I stayed up until 3am the one night, just so I could finish.
Crouch writes in such a descriptive manner, you feel as though you are right there in the town of Abandon as well.
The book goes back and forth between present-day and the past including the events leading up to Abandon's collapse. So, you are able to partake in the unraveling of the past, while simultaneously enjoy in the present's mishaps. Two stories in one!
The plot itself is mysterious, creepy and extremely intriguing. There's no way you'll be able to guess the conclusion of this book, it's far too creative. The characters are also well written and developed thoroughly. I found myself rooting for certain characters and also rooting for the demise of others.
I truly enjoy Blake Crouch's writing, he is by far one of my new favorite authors. He is able to capture an audience with his unique stories and profound characters.
If you enjoy thrillers and a little sci-fi, make sure to check out Blake Crouch's other works such as Wayward Pines!
What I didn't: Even though the town's nic name is Abandon, I felt it was a little too cheesy considering the town was "abandoned."
