Overview: When 12 mysterious space crafts land methodically around the world, the US government hires a professional Linguistics scholar to help interpret the aliens' language and find out why they've come to Earth.
During her journey into the unknown, though, Professor Banks learns a lot more than just a new language, she learns about life.
What I loved: Wow. Holy freakin' canole. My mind is still processing the out-of-this-world film, pun intended. I can't believe it took me so long to finally watch.
What makes this film truly amazing, in my opinion, is the realistic feel. The news footage, the story, the reactions of the world, seem all too real to be fiction.
What else makes this film so thoroughly incredible? Amy Adams. Adams has come a long way from playing a princess in Enchanted. In fact, I'd say she is one of the best actresses of our time and she's also become one of my favorites. Her acting brings the story to life and I couldn't picture any other actress performing this role as well.
The movie successfully instills a wide range of emotions for the audience, at least it did for me. In the beginning, I actually felt knots in my stomach because I was so nervous and excited. During the middle, I felt anxious and worried for how everything would play out. And, in the end, I felt delightfully confused, but couldn't help fall in love with the thought provoking ending.
Wow. Just wow.
Don't believe me when I say this is one incredible film? Arrival has a whopping 38 award wins and 212 nominations.
The film is based on the novella, "Story of Your Life" written by Ted Chiang. And you know I'll be getting my hands on that book ASAP.
Arrival is 100% a must-see film.
What I didn't: Once the confusion wore off, my only true complaint was Forest Whitaker's accent. He sounded like he desperately wanted to be Denzel Washington. At times, it was really difficult to understand what he was saying.
*If you watch this film and are left a little confused, I highly recommend reading these two articles. They helped me clear up a few plot points once I finished watching*
