Overview: A couple decide to take a camping trip in the Canadian wilderness. Once there, they soon learn they are being stalked by a creature in the woods. Are the in danger of an animal attack, or is their pursuer a man as frightening as a beast.
What I loved: My dad had suggested my boyfriend and I watch this film, and we thought, 'What the heck, why not?' Well, we figured out soon enough, we were in for a wild ride, pun intended.
The film was incredibly intense, intriguing and thrilling. Many scenes left me holding my breath and clutching a pillow, I have no shame. The cinematography was also very beautiful and the music proved captivating too.
The female lead, Missy Peregrym (Rookie Blue) did a great job. She also reminds me of Hilary Swank. Her boyfriend in the movie, Jeff Roop (Heartland) had a similarly satisfying performance as well.
The story is supposedly based on a true story
What I didn't: Without giving anything away, part of the movie is truly unbelievable. Some of the characteristics of the attacker is very out-of-character. You will understand what I mean once you see it.
Also, the film is a LOT more gruesome than I thought it would be, so please proceed with caution. Backcountry is absolutely not for the faint of heart or anyone squeamish.
I had a fairly intense stomachache by the end, and my boyfriend did too.
