And speaking of effects... WOW. The explosions, the fire, the dystopic environment, all of it was spectacularly done. Some scenes capture the art of accelerated motion which is a unique change of pace as far as action movies go. Do not wait until this movie comes out on Netflix, you need to see it in theaters.
Although this movie is named after the male lead, I feel that Charlize stole the show. She was gorgeous, fierce and untouchable. Her strong female presence is not to be ignored. Charlize is a fantastic actress and her role as Furiosa provides no exception.
Tom Hardy also did an excellent job portraying Mad Max. He certainly was able to act delirious and crazed. Throughout the movie, his character calms down a bit and he’s able to stand his ground and help Furiosa escape.
The other actors did an astounding job as well such as Nicholas Hoult (X-Men First Class, Warm Bodies) Zoe Kravitz (Divergent, X-Men First Class) and Josh Helman (Jack Reacher, The Pacific).
Mad Max is undoubtedly the blockbuster of the summer.
What I didn’t: There isn’t much more I could have asked of this movie. It promised action and it delivered. The acting was amazing along with the impressive score and effects. There are only a couple of things I wish were different. First off, and it pains me to say this because I’m infatuated with Tom Hardy, but his accent was often inconsistent. At times, he sounded like Bane or his character in The Drop or his real English accent peaked through. It was hard to keep up with which voice he was using. Also, for the viewers like myself never having seen the original, it would have been nice to have a little more background of the story. How did the world come to be this apocalyptic hell? What happened to Max to make him mad? I’m hoping these questions will be answered if a sequel is made.
