What I loved: I learned more about writing by reading this book than I ever had in any of my writing classes in school. Even my creative writing classes I took in college barely provided a tenth of the information in King's memoir.
On Writing felt like a revolution in my mind, a breath of fresh air and a new beginning.
King includes specific rules and tips regarding grammar, language, voice, dialogue and so much more. He gives amazing tips and advice about the writing process as a whole, like when to show others what you've written, what do do when you've finished your drafts and even how to go about finding an agent.
Almost anything you need to know about being a writer can be found within the pages of this masterpiece.
If you're an aspiring writer and haven't read this yet, you need to purchase it ASAP!
What I didn't: As interesting as it was to learn about Stephen King and his journey to becoming a writer, I feel like a separate book would have been ideal to include the personal history. Personally, I purchased the book mainly to improve my writing. I feel like King could have written a full-length memoir which would have provided readers a more in-depth look into his past and it would have kept his writing tips separate.
Also, I highly recommend purchasing this book on an eReader so you can highlight important parts easily. I spent a great deal of time writing handwritten notes of tips and rules from the book. I could have saved much more time and finished even sooner by having the digital copy.
