Type: Television Show
Release Date: July 15, 2016
Episodes: 8 each about 1 hr a piece
Overview: Hawkins is a small town in Indiana with no remarkable attributes. However, when a young boy disappears without a trace, the town becomes strange. After Will's disappearance though, another child is found; a terrified girl with incredible abilities.
Take a leap back in time and revel in 80's nostalgia as the Duffer Brothers lead you on a memorable chase to save Will Byers before it's too late.
What I loved: For the past month or so, I have heard raving reviews of Stranger Things and it was on my to-watch list, but I wasn't in any hurry. Even Stephen King, the horror hero, bowed down to the Duffer Brothers. Then, almost my entire office began talking about the show and I didn't want to risk any spoilers, so I decided to binge the show this past weekend... All I can say is, "Holy shit, wow!"
Netflix truly hit it out of the park again, with another original show. First off, the costumes, hair, makeup, and decor were incredibly realistic. The authenticity of the show is spot on! Also, the writing and effects were fantastic, not too cheesey and not too fancy either.
And the acting, phenomenal! Winona Rider perfectly portrayed a grieving mother with the right amount of crazy. David Harbour, the town sheriff, also performed admirably and he was one of my favorites in the show. The teen and child actors were pretty impressive as well.
I loved how there were adult, teenager and kid characters starring in the show. The casting and writing gave the audience a unique insight into the perspectives of how people of all ages deal with conflict and tragedy. The children were less afraid and possibly even more brave than their parents. It was an entertaining dynamic to watch unravel each episode.
Also, the show was pretty damn creepy and suspenseful. They showed just enough strange things to instill fear into the viewer, but not too much as to reveal anything too soon.
Stranger Things is truly special and a wonderful piece of entertainment. Every single episode had me clinging to my chair and my breath. I highly recommend this show for anyone, even if sci-fi horror isn't your thing.
What I didn't: A few characters truly annoyed me, but most of them redeemed themselves by the end of the season.
